The fruit list for the low carb diet is getting shorter.
The list of fruits and veggies is getting smaller and less diverse, says Kristin Ollila, a registered dietitian and a dietitians dietitist at AHA Institute in Seattle.
“There are less fruits, less vegetables, and less fruits that are low in sugar and more fruits that have a high glycemic index,” she said.
“And then there’s more low carb vegetables and less fruit that have fiber.”
For some people, this could mean choosing fewer fruits or vegetables, Ollilla says.
For others, it could mean getting rid of more processed foods and choosing more local foods.
Ollillo said she is always on the lookout for more ways to eat a low carb lifestyle.
She recommends trying new things like adding fruits and/or vegetables to your diet and making sure you get enough fruits and veg.
“I always say that if you want to be a healthier person, you have to get your food and you have no choice but to eat your food,” she says.
“You can’t just do one thing.”
