In 2009, Tarte founder Téa Leoni started experimenting with her own vegan products.
She said the first products she made were for herself and her husband, who was vegetarian.
“We did our research and we came to the conclusion that we had to do something different,” she said.
“That’s when we began experimenting with vegan ingredients.”
Since then, Leoni has experimented with other vegan products and even created her own brand of products.
“I’m still a herbivor, I have to eat a lot of vegetables and fruits, but I also want to be able to eat lots of other things, like coffee, and coffee is a really good source of protein,” she told Business Insider.
“And I have my friends and I eat a vegan diet, so I’m not going to starve, but my diet is very strict and very high in protein.”
Tarte is one of a number of vegan products available on the market that are made with plant-based ingredients.
The company says that the products are made from plant-derived ingredients and are meant to be as healthful as possible, but there are a few caveats.
“All of our products are vegan,” a Tarte spokesperson told BusinessInsider.
“They are all certified organic and certified vegan.
They are not vegan on the packaging.
We have an ethical sourcing policy, and we have an in-house supply chain that we use.”
Some of Tarte’s products are cruelty-free.
Leoni said that she has been vegan for almost 20 years, and she said that the company does not consider herself a “vegan activist”.
“I just feel that I’m a good vegan, I don’t want to do anything that’s going to change my diet or my lifestyle,” she added.
Tarte also said that some of its products are non-toxic, and it is making them available to the public through its website.
“There are some very organic, non-gmo ingredients, and they are very high quality ingredients,” the spokesperson told The Independent.
“Some of them are vegan, but they are not cruelty-FREE, and so they are still a very good product.”
Leoni is currently working on her second line of products and said that her company is focusing on expanding its vegan offerings.
“If we can get more people to want to know that veganism is possible, then that’s good for the planet,” she explained.
“Because if we can have a better world, then we’re going to have a lot more sustainable farming.”
